The Big 6 Research Model will be used in the library at WES to conduct a variety of research assignments for students in grades 3-5.  This model includes the following six steps:

Step 1:  Define the Task: What do I need to do?

Step 2: Information Seeking Strategies:  What can I use to find what I need?

Step 3: Location & Access: Where can I find what I need?

Step 4: Use of Information: What information can I use?

Step 5: Synthesis:  What can I make to finish the job?

Step 6: Evaluation:  How will I know if I did my job well?

The Super3 Research Model is a simplified version of the Big6 that will used in the library at WES to design and complete a research task for younger students in 1-2 grades.  This model includes the following three steps:

Step 1: Plan
  • What am I supposed to do?
  • What will a "good job" look like?
  • What information do I need?
  • What is my plan?
Step 2: Do
  • I get the information I need.
  • I put it all together.
  • I might read, draw pictures, use the computer or write.

Step 3: Review
  • Is my job done?
  • Did I do what I was supposed to?
  • Did I cite my sources?
  • Do I feel okay about my work?
  • Do I need to do anything else before I turn it in?
